King of Crops: Then & Now

With a name and mission like ours, was anyone surprised when we started a farm and named it King of Crops?

King of Crops was established in 2013 and became the World’s First Pop Farm! Our hope was to grow great ingredients for our pops, become a bigger part of the community, and inspire folks to engage in their food in a new way.

Over the past seven years, we have planted a lot of fruit, like muscadines, elderberries, blueberries, blackberries, ginger, and goji berries. Some of these will take a few years to yield enough produce to be put in pops, but some have already made a debut (looking at you, blueberries and ginger).

We have also planted crimson clover, a legume that has the ability to suck nitrogen out of the atmosphere and store it in its roots. When the plants die, all of the nitrogen is exhaled into the soil and becomes plant food for everything else. It is beautiful and beneficial!

Looking into the future, we hope to make King of Crops a great destination for school field trips, company conferences, and even wedding parties.

However, we are most excited about the new line of plant transplants we will soon release to help folks grow great foods in their gardens. Look out for:

Butterhead lettuce / Romaine lettuce / Red Russian kale / Right stuff pepper / Black beauty eggplant / Provider green bean / Baby doll watermelon / Klondike blue watermelon / Crimson sweet watermelon / Spaghetti squash / Oregon sugar pod snow pea / Tasty jade cuke / Roma tomato / Brandy wine tomato / Beefsteak tomato / Supersweet 100 cherry tomato / Yellow pear tomato / Cherokee purple tomato / Parsley, dill, cilantro

We hope to have you join in this effort at some point, whether it’s staying at our AirBNB, bringing some plant transplants home to your garden, or even enjoying one of our farm fresh ingredients in a pop.

Happy Earth Day, friends.
